Lesson Plan: The Holy Spirit II

Grade Level: Primary 5

Duration: 45 minutes


Objectives:

  1. To understand who the Holy Spirit is.
  2. To explore the roles of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian.
  3. To learn how the Holy Spirit helps and guides Christians.
  4. To encourage students to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.

Materials Needed:

  • Bibles
  • Chart paper/whiteboard
  • Markers
  • Holy Spirit role/play cards
  • Crayons and drawing paper

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (10 minutes)

    • Begin with a prayer.
    • Briefly review the previous lesson on the Holy Spirit (The Holy Spirit I).
    • Ask the students what they remember about the Holy Spirit.
  2. Scripture Reading (10 minutes)

    • Read John 14:16-17 and Acts 2:1-4 aloud.
    • Discuss these verses briefly, highlighting how Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit and how the disciples experienced its arrival on Pentecost.
  3. Discussion (10 minutes)

    • Explain who the Holy Spirit is (the third person of the Trinity).
    • Write down the roles of the Holy Spirit on the chart paper/whiteboard as you discuss them:
      1. Helper/Comforter: Assists us in our times of need.
      2. Guide: Shows us the right path to take.
      3. Teacher: Helps us understand the Bible.
      4. Empowerer: Gives us the strength to witness for Jesus.
      5. Convicter: Helps us to recognize our sins and seek forgiveness.
    • Use simple, clear language and relate each role to the students’ everyday life.
  4. Activity (10 minutes)

    • Hand out the Holy Spirit role/play cards.
    • Divide the students into small groups.
    • Each group picks a card and creates a short skit or drawing that illustrates how the Holy Spirit helps them in that specific role.
    • Have each group present their skit or drawing to the class.
  5. Application and Reflection (5 minutes)

    • Ask the students to think quietly about a situation in their life where they need the Holy Spirit’s help.
    • Encourage them to seek the Holy Spirit in prayer and trust in His guidance and support.
  6. Closing (5 minutes)

    • Summarize the main points discussed about the Holy Spirit.
    • Close with a prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to help and guide the students in their daily lives.

Assessment:

  • Observe student participation during discussions and activities.
  • Evaluate the skits/drawings to see how well students understood the role of the Holy Spirit.
  • Ask informal questions to check for understanding throughout the lesson.

Follow-up:

  • Encourage students to share with their families what they learned about the Holy Spirit.
  • Suggest a simple daily prayer asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and help.
